Lawyers seek action against BJP leader for ‘threatening’ Rohtak SP
A delegation of lawyers met Rohtak Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar on Monday and demanded action against former Haryana minister and senior BJP leader Manish Grover for allegedly threatening the local Superintendent of Police (SP).
The lawyers, led by Supreme Court advocate Karan Singh Narang, submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, copies of which have been sent to the Chief Election Commissioner of India and Rohtak SP.
The Chief Electoral Officer of Haryana has already sought a report from the Rohtak Deputy Commissioner regarding the matter.
The matter, which began with a small altercation over the distribution of pamphlets, has snowballed into a big controversy. A Dalit woman worker of the BJP was distributing pamphlets in a Rohtak market on August 24. Some Congress workers objected to the content of the pamphlets, which led to an altercation.
The BJP workers lodged a police complaint, but an FIR was not registered. Following that, they staged a dharna at the SP’s residence. Some BJP workers attacked a policeman who was recording the dharna. A case was registered against five workers. Meanwhile, former minister Manish Grover threatened the local SP. A local lawyer complained to the Election Commission, which sought a report from the Rohtak Deputy Commissioner. The BJP workers have also been staging protest demonstrations, demanding action against the Congress workers, including the son of the local Congress MLA.
A stalemate persists over the matter, with both sides demanding legal action against each other.
