At a condolence meeting held in Chautala village today in memory of former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, a number of prominent leaders, including BJP national president JP Nadda, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Punjab’s former Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal, former Finance Minister Manpreet Badal, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait and BJP state president Mohan Lal Badoli, were present. They honoured Chautala’s contributions to Haryana’s political and developmental landscape.

A five-minute documentary chronicling OP Chautala’s life and legacy was screened during the event. The video concluded with Chautala naming Abhay Chautala as his political successor in the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).

Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait, addressing the gathering, called for unity within the Chautala family, urging them to set aside differences. “The government’s own slogan is, ‘Divided we fall.’ The family must come together for the greater good,” he emphasised, underscoring the strength found in unity.

Chief Minister Nayab Saini described OP Chautala’s life as an “open book” filled with lessons in dedication and service. He praised Chautala’s relentless efforts to guide Haryana’s progress, saying, “His commitment to public welfare has left an enduring legacy for all of us to follow.”

Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya remembered Chautala as a visionary who championed Haryana’s water rights. Recounting their interactions during Chautala’s tenure, he commended his steadfast dedication to the people’s interests and the state’s development.

BJP national president JP Nadda remarked that Chautala’s passing marked the end of an era. He highlighted Chautala’s advocacy for labourers, farmers and the middle class, noting his pivotal role in transforming Haryana into a progressive and developed state.

Abhay Chautala, OP Chautala’s son and political heir, delivered a heartfelt tribute. He expressed the profound personal loss of his father, saying, “The greatest sorrow is when a father’s protective hand is no longer over your head.” He fondly recalled his father’s guidance in teaching resilience and morality and praised his tireless dedication to the welfare of the common man and his party, even in his later years.
