Legal experts discuss three new criminal laws in Karnal

\A training session was organised at the mini-secretariat here on Thursday to discuss the implementation of the three new criminal laws — Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.

The session witnessed the participation from judges of Karnal courts, and district administration officials.

Detailed discussions were held on Nyaya Shruti, e-Summons, and e-Sakshya — crucial components of the new legal framework.

NIC Deputy Director (General) Shashi Kant Sharma highlighted the government’s efforts to implement the three new laws. He addressed concerns related to the implementation process and emphasised that the primary objective of these new laws was to ensure speedy justice for citizens.

He said, as part of a pilot project, two courts in Karnal — the District Sessions Court and the Judicial Magistrate Court — had been selected for early implementation.

These courts would soon be equipped with the necessary digital tools to facilitate the transition.

Sharma said the Nyaya Shruti App would be used to integrate courts, prisons, police stations and forensic labs into a unified system.

He highlighted that for e-evidence, video footage and photographs from crime scenes would need to be submitted to the court within 48 hours.

The adoption of digital platforms and new legal provisions would significantly enhance the efficiency of the judicial system, he added.

District and Sessions Judge Chandra Shekhar; IGP (Karnal Range) Kuldeep Singh; Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh; SP Gangaram Punia; Jail Superintendent Lakhvir Barar; NIC Joint Director Kamal Tyagi; and Deputy Director Prosecution-cum-District Attorney Pankaj Saini were among those present at the workshop.
