A life term convict shot himself in the head with a countrymade pistol in his house at the local India colony on Friday morning. Pankaj, 22-year-old, died on the spot.

His family members said he had come on 21 days parole and he was to return to Bhondsi jail in Gurugram on Friday, but did not want to go. Pankaj and three others – Navven and Anil of local Mayur Vihar and Pankaj of Garhi Brahmanan in the town — were sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court on February 16, 2018 for the murder of Mohit (22), the son of a Delhi Police official and resident of local Malvianagar on October 29, 2016.

PO on run for 9 years held

Faridabad: The crime branch team of the local police has arrested a murder convict who had jumped parole about nine years ago and had been absconding since then. He had a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head.

ACP Crime Anil Kumar said Ramesh Kumar alias Pappan (35) of Panhera Khurd village jumped parole in June 2011 after he was released from jail for a brief period. Pappan, who was convicted of two murders in 2003, had been sentenced to life imprisonment by a court for murdering Govind in Ballabgarh in November 2002 and Sanjay in Gurugram in January 2003.

Pappan was arrested soon after the crimes and awarded life sentence. However, after spending eight years in jail, he was sanctioned 28 days parole in June 2011, but did not report back. The police registered a case against him on June 29, 2011.

A police team arrested Pappan on Thursday from Sirohi district in Rajasthan close to the Gujarat border where he was living with a woman. He was remanded to judicial custody by the local court today.
