The ambitious project to get a light and sound show at Brahma Sarovar seems to have been put on the back burner.
In 2023, to enhance the evening attraction, the then Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced a light and sound show for the Brahma Sarovar and directed the Kurukshetra Development Board to get the show introduced before the next Mahotsav (IGM-24). However, the project is yet to see the light of the day, and the government and the KDB are set to celebrate the IGM-25 in November, with no plans to introduce the show anytime soon.
This year, a 21-day IGM-25 will be celebrated from November 15 to December 5, on the banks of the Brahma Sarovar in Kurukshetra. The Saras and Crafts Fairs will be organised for 21 days, while the main events will be organised for eight days from November 24 to December 1.
The Brahma Sarovar is one of the major tourist locations, but it lacks evening attractions, due to which a majority of the tourists leave Kurukshetra by the evening.
Meanwhile, honorary secretary of the Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB) Upender Singhal said, “Preparations for the IGM-25 are underway and all efforts are being made to organise a grand event. The light and sound show is an important project for us however, it hasn’t been a part of the recent discussions at the meetings. The project will enhance the evening attraction of the Brahma Sarovar, and will be taken up with the officials concerned soon.”
“The board has been taking various measures to improve the attractions and facilities for the tourists at the Brahma Sarovar. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the installation of new stones, to revamp the Parikrama Path of Brahma Sarovar in Kurukshetra, is being prepared and the project will begin after the IGM. Similarly, the project to install CCTV cameras inside and the outer area of the Brahma Sarovar will begin after the IGM. While the cameras in the outer area will be installed by the Municipal Council, the inner area will be covered by the KDB”, he added.
