Ambala, June 12

The Ambala police seized 1,965 boxes containing 23,580 illicit liquor bottles of IMFL brands from two trucks bearing Haryana’s registration numbers parked at a godown in Mandaur village of Ambala late last night.

The police got a tip-off that two trucks are parked in a godown. A police team and officials of the Excise Department conducted a joint raid and seized the stock. No person was found there.

Excise inspector Vikas said, “Stock of three brands was seized. There were some bottles without label and without hologram. One brand was for sale in Haryana and some stock was for sale in Chandigarh.”

A case has been registered against liquor contractor Pradeep Mittal, unidentified truck owners and drivers, godown owner and liquor factory owner under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 120b of the IPC and 61 of Excise Act at Panjokhra police station.

Last year on September 18, accused Pradeep Mittal was arrested by the Ambala police in connection with the seizure of illicit liquor in Panjokhra area on September 11 and 12. Later, he was again booked on September 26 when the police seized liquor from a marriage palace at Barnala village in Panjokhra area.

SHO Panjokhra police station Mohan Lal said, “As per the information that we received, the godown and trucks belong to Pradeep Mittal, a liquor contractor who is presently out on bail. Efforts are being made to arrest him.”

SSP Ambala Hamid Akhtar said, “There was information that two trucks loaded with liquor are parked in a godown and the liquor would be sold without permit. So, a raid was conducted and stock was seized.”
