According to the police, the woman was in a live-in relationship with Gurdeep Singh for nearly 17 years. She had met him in Amritsar, and both later separated from their respective spouses. Over time, the relationship reportedly turned abusive and the woman recently decided to end it. She was planning to travel to Dubai for work on July 25.

On July 21, the woman booked a hotel room in her name where she met Gurdeep. During the stay, an argument took place. The woman told the police that Gurdeep consumed alcohol and allegedly attacked her with a broken bottle, causing injuries to her neck and hand. She managed to call the police helpline 112 and alerted the hotel staff, who intervened.

The Civil Lines Police arrived at the scene and took Gurdeep Singh into custody. SHO Inspector Radheshyam stated that the woman had made the booking in her own name and was staying with the accused. He added legal action was being taken, and further proceedings would follow once the woman was medically fit to record her statement.
