Area residents recently met MLA Nikhil Madaan with the demand of shifting a garbage dump from the backside of Baba Dham Temple on Sabji Mandi road — a residential area. After the residents submitted a memorandum to the MLA, he assured that the dumping yard would be soon shifted out of the residential area.

Area residents, led by councillor Hari Prakash Saini, said they had been facing a lot of problems after the garbage dump was set up in their locality. The foul smell the garbage gave off had made their life miserable, they said. Often, garbage was not lifted and was scattered all over the place. The elderly and children in every household of the colony were falling ill, they claimed. The situation became worse during the rains, they added.

MLA Madaan called MC Commissioner Harshit Kumar to the spot and directed him to shift the garbage dump from the backside of the Baba Dham Temple to some non-residential area.

Madaan said cleanliness in the city was his priority. Earlier, a dumping yard near Kachey Quarter market entry and another at ITI chowk have been shifted and both places have been beautified, he added.
