The festive spirit of Lohri is at its peak as people across the district have geared up to celebrate the occasion with enthusiasm.

Markets are bustling with residents buying traditional items like groundnuts, revdi, popcorn and bhugga, integral to the celebrations of the festival.

With preparations in full swing, the spirit of Lohri is palpable in the air, bringing warmth and joy to people’s hearts during the chilly winter evenings.

The festival is celebrated to mark the end of the winter season. It holds special significance for farmers, as it marks the harvest of many crops. The festival is celebrated by lighting a bonfire, dancing to traditional folk songs, sharing sweets with loved ones, friends and the poor.

Vendors are witnessing a surge in demand for groundnuts, gachak, revdi, popcorn and bhugga etc. People are also buying decorative gift items to present to their relatives and friends,” said Rishi, a shopkeeper.

It is a beautiful way to welcome prosperity,” said Sanjay Kataria, a local resident. “The festival brings people together. We share sweets, dance and sing traditional songs. It is a reminder to celebrate life,” said Om Parkash, another local resident.

The marriage of a newly wedded couple and birth of children are also celebrated on this day. Youth are excited for the festival and plan big celebrations with their families and friends. Besides, many colonies are organising community events, where residents will light bonfires, distribute sweets and enjoy folk performances.
