Lok Sabha Speaker for separate Haryana Assembly building: Gian Chand Gupta

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has supported the demand of a separate Assembly building for Haryana, Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gian Chand Gupta said today.
Gupta said: “The Lok Sabha Speaker has fully supported our demand for a separate House. He said our case is the only one in the country where the Houses of two states are located in one building. Otherwise, every state has an independent building for Assembly.”
Gupta had met Birla on Sunday night in Delhi and submitted a letter in the matter.
“The Lok Sabha Speaker has told me that the new House should come up in Chandigarh and for that, we need to take up the issue with the Chandigarh Administration. Our main ground is delimitation exercise, which will be carried out in 2026. It will enhance our Assembly seats to 126 while the Lok Sabha seats would reach 14. The present House is for 90 MLAs and there is no space to increase the seats,” he said.
Punjab Government didn’t provide us space in the Assembly building after the formation of Haryana, the Vidhan Sabha Speaker pointed out. “During the Assembly sessions, there is space for sitting of Punjab ministers in separate rooms whereas for Haryana, only the Chief Minister has an independent chamber. There is no space for ministers and chairpersons of the Vidhan Sabha committees,” he said.
