Madagascar delegation explores collaboration with ICAR-NDRI

A high-level delegation of 30 senior civil servants from the Republic of Madagascar visited the ICAR–National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) in Karnal, aiming to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agriculture and livestock development.

The visiting officials represented Madagascar’s agriculture, livestock, and allied sectors. The delegation was led by Ramarosandratana Guy, Governor of Alaotra Mangoro Region; Ralaiarimalala Sylvain Rodolphe, Mayor of the Commune of Moramange; and Rakotoarivony Riana, Head of the National School of Administration of Madagascar.

Dr Dheer Singh, Director and Vice-Chancellor of ICAR–NDRI, welcomed the team and presented an overview of the institute’s achievements, key milestones, and technological innovations. Discussions focused on areas such as artificial insemination, cloning technology and rapid detection strips developed by NDRI to identify adulterants in milk.

The delegation expressed keen interest in adopting NDRI’s expertise for breed improvement and sustainable dairy development initiatives in Madagascar. In response, Dr Singh reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to supporting Madagascar through capacity-building programmes and technological collaboration.

As part of the visit, the team toured NDRI’s Model Dairy Plant and observed live demonstrations of dairy processing operations. They praised the institute’s cutting-edge infrastructure, advanced research capabilities, and its role in developing farmer-centric technologies.

“NDRI remains committed to extending its expertise beyond national boundaries and partnering with like-minded nations to strengthen global food and nutritional security,” Dr. Singh said during the interaction. “We look forward to working with the Government of Madagascar to enhance dairy productivity, breed improvement, and technology adoption for the benefit of their farming community.”

The programme was attended by NDRI officials including Dr AK Singh, Joint Director (Academic); Dr Rajan Sharma, Joint Director (Research); and Dr Sanjit Maiti, Senior Scientist. It was facilitated by Dr Sanjeev Sharma from the National Centre for Good Governance, Government of India.
