Arvind Khurania, a senior advocate from Kaithal and a master trainer of Haryana State Legal Services Authority, explained the provisions of the Act, and the judicial approach and the police procedure regarding complaints related to transgender rights, as laid down by the Supreme Court in

The provisions of the Act came in to effect from January 10, 2020, whereas the rules came into effect from September 25, 2020.

In 2014, the Supreme Court had given a landmark judgment in National Legal Services Authority Vs Union of India, directing Central and state governments to take proactive action in securing transgender

persons’ rights.
