Alhough the project is yet to be completed, the government has decided to open it in a phased manner for the visitors.

The project started in 2018 and was to be completed in 2021. It got a one-year extension (till July-end last year) and then was extended again up to October, but it missed all deadlines due to various issues, including Covid, funds, hiring consultant and incessant rains.

The government wanted the project to be completed this month so that it could be inaugurated before the model code of conduct came into force. The complete project is expected to be completed by April.

Sources said nearly 20 stories related to the Mahabharata and its characters would be shown in these buildings and a show would be shown in the courtyard. As a large number of equipment being used in the project was being imported from other countries, the delay in the arrival of the equipment had also affected the project.

An official said, “The tourists and devotees who reach Jyotisar Tirtha are set to get a new experience soon as they will be witnessing some untouched stories related to the Mahabharata and the main characters with the help of latest technology. Since Jyotisar is a big project, attention is being paid to every single detail, especially when it comes to showing the Mahabharata. The equipment is being imported from Sweden, Dubai and other countries and the delay in the arrival and assembling here has affected the work.”

Gautam Kumar, Executive Engineer, Haryana Tourism Corporation, said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the project from Rewari, while a programme will also be organised here at Jyotisar. The project is being started with three buildings and the courtyard is ready for inauguration and the remaining building will be inaugurated by April.”

“Over 40 stories have been prepared for the visitors and it will be a new experience for them. Initially, we will start with around 20 stories and then the remaining stories will be introduced. Currently, the stories will be shown in Hindi but within a couple of months, the same content will be shown in other languages too,” he added.

Additional Deputy Commission Dr Vaishali Sharma said, “The Jyotisar project will be inaugurated by the PM and meetings are being held with the department concerned. Directions have been issued for the event and the officials have been asked to expedite the work.”
