Maharaja Suraj Mal's sacrifice day celebrated, CM unveils his statue

A grand ceremony was held in Phoolkan village of Sirsa district to honour the sacrifice day of Maharaja Suraj Mal. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini graced the event as the chief guest, accompanied by Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda and Rajya Sabha member Subhash Barala.

The centre piece of the event was the unveiling of a statue of Maharaja Suraj Mal at the Maharaja Suraj Mal Park. Dignitaries present included former MP Sunita Duggal, Sirsa MLA Gokul Setia, BJP leaders Jagdish Chopra, Rohtash Jangra and Manish Goyal. Local leaders, including the Sarpanch of Phoolkan and Dr Rajendra Chaudhary, a descendant of Maharaja Suraj Mal, also attended the ceremony.

Chief Minister Nayab Saini announced donations of Rs 21 lakh to the organising committee and Rs 11 lakh to the Ambedkar Charitable Trust. He reassured the villagers that development projects would remain a priority, urging collaboration from local leaders. He also announced plans for a Sarpanch Conference to address village-level welfare initiatives.

“Maharaja Suraj Mal’s legacy of bravery and diplomacy continues to inspire us,” said Saini. He highlighted Maharaja Suraj Mal’s historical connections with leaders like Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Chhatrapati Shivaji, urging the youth to follow the path of such visionary leaders. “Statues and institutions dedicated to great leaders like Maharaja Suraj Mal will guide and inspire future generations,” he added.

The Chief Minister also spoke on combating social issues such as drug abuse, appealing to the youth to focus on education and sports. “Stay away from drugs and contribute to the nation’s progress,” he urged, while also promoting initiatives like the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign.

Highlighting Haryana’s welfare initiatives, CM Saini detailed government efforts such as ensuring MSP for 24 crops, introducing transparent job creation processes and promising jobs for 2 lakh youth. He further announced plans to expand the Ayushman Bharat Scheme (Chirayu Card) to increase treatment limits beyond Rs 5 lakh, benefitting more families across the state.

“Maharaja Suraj Mal’s statue is not just a tribute but a call to action for our youth to adopt values of courage, leadership, and patriotism,” the Chief Minister said.
