The Cyber Cell team of the district police successfully tracked and recovered 40 lost mobile phones, valued at approximately Rs 6.87 lakh, and handed them back to their owners.
“The recovered mobile phones were traced through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, a platform initiated by the Centre for tracking lost devices. The police team gathered crucial clues, allowing them to locate the phones and return these to their owners at the SP office in Narnaul town. Many owners expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the efforts of the police and the Cyber Cell team,” said the spokesman of the district police.
DSP Suresh Kumar while providing details of the operation explained the importance of the CIIR portal. “When a complaint is registered, the mobile phone’s IMEI number is blocked, preventing its misuse. Once the phone is traced, the complainant is immediately notified,” he added.
The DSP emphasised the significance of this initiative in protecting mobile phone owners from potential criminal activity. He praised the work of the Cyber Cell team, stating that the recovery of these mobile phones not only brought relief to their owners but also ensured that they did not fall into the wrong hands.
He further assured the public that the Cyber police continuously monitored lost phones, which helped facilitate this successful recovery.
The DSP also urged the general public to keep their mobile phones secure and avoid handing them over to unknown individuals. He stressed the importance of immediately reporting lost phones through the e-Disha Kendra on the CEIR portal to prevent misuse.
