In a major breakthrough, the CIA Ellenabad police team in Sirsa has apprehended two heroin smugglers carrying 4.256 kg of heroin, valued at approximately Rs 25 crore, during a routine patrol. Acting on crucial intelligence, the arrest was made in the Chhatargarh Patti area of Sirsa on Thursday.

The two accused, identified as Abhishek, a resident of Chhatargarh Patti, Sirsa, and Pradeep, a resident of Bathinda, Punjab, were intercepted in a Kia car (number Punjab 03 BH 3710) after they attempted to flee upon spotting the police. The team, led by Sub-Inspector Jagdish Chand, stopped the vehicle and, in the presence of a gazetted officer, conducted a search, uncovering the massive heroin haul.

Vikrant Bhushan, the District Superintendent of Police, lauded the efforts of the CIA team, stating that this was the first time in 50 years that such a large quantity of heroin, locally referred to as "chitta," had been seized in the district.

During initial interrogation, the accused revealed that they had procured the heroin from Punjab and intended to distribute it in Sirsa and surrounding areas. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at the Civil Lines Police Station, and investigations are ongoing.

In recognition of their efforts, SP Vikrant Bhushan praised Sub-Inspector Jagdish Chand and the entire police team, announcing plans to honour them for their dedication and success.

It is worth noting that Sirsa has increasingly become a hotspot for drug smuggling. Numerous social organisations, political figures, and local residents have raised concerns about the growing drug menace. Despite these concerns, drug trafficking continues to rise, with frequent reports of young people dying from overdoses in the region.
