A major fire broke out at a handloom product godown in Panipat in the wee hours on Monday.
It is the second such incident to have occurred in the last two days in Panipat. On Sunday, a major fire broke out at a blanket manufacturing unit here. Ten fire tenders from Panipat and Samalkha were pressed into service to douse the flames on Monday. The fire was controlled in around four hours. As per information, the fire broke out at an MRR Private Limited unit. The unit manufactured export products (bath mats and rugs) in plots 2 and 3 of Sector 28.
The factory is owned by Ramesh Verma, president, Handloom Exports Manufacturer Association. The fire broke out at 3.30 am. After spotting the fire, the unit’s guard immediately informed the factory owner and the fire brigade. After receiving information, fire tenders from Panipat and Samalkha reached the spot to control the flames.
Leading fireman Amit Kumar said the factory was a single-floor unit, and the fire was so huge that all manufactured products, machinery and yarn were engulfed by it.
The reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, he added. The factory owner said, after receiving a call about the fire, he, along with his son, immediately reached the godown, but it had been gutted in the fire by then.
