Haryana Assembly polls: Ajay Maken takes feedback from Congress leaders on ticket allocation
Rohtak, August 27
The Congress’s screening committee led by party’s national treasurer Ajay Maken took feedback from Congress leaders, including former minister and Congress OBC Department national president Capt Ajay Singh Yadav, MPs- Jai Prakash and Varun Choudhary, about potential candidates for the upcoming Assembly poll.
‘Winnable’ candidates
It’s a good move as feedback from leaders of every region will help select winnable candidates. I have already said that the Congress will win more than 70 seats in the assembly polls, if tickets are allotted to winnable candidates.

Sources said these leaders met the panel at different times in Delhi on Monday and some of them also submitted an additional list of potential candidates for various Assembly segments to the screening committee as per the decision taken at the Pradesh Election Committee’s meeting held in Delhi last week.
“The Congress has a good chance to form the government in the state as the BJP is facing an acute anti-incumbency; hence the screening committee is taking all care to find out winnable candidates for the assembly poll,” said a senior Congress leader on condition of anonymity. Moreover, Cong leader Rahul Gandhi too has issued instructions that all senior leaders should be consulted before finalising the candidates, he said.
He said that Capt Yadav too submitted an additional list of potential candidates to the screening committee. He especially stressed giving prominence to the candidates belonging to backward classes, women and youth in ticket allotment. Yadav also shared his feedback about the prevailing political scenario in the Ahirwal region comprising Rewari, Mahendragarh and Gurugram districts, he added.
Sources said that the screening committee took the feedback about potential candidates from Congress MPs, party nominees in Lok Sabha polls and other senior leaders in the state in order to find out ‘winnable’ candidates.
Notably, 2,556 aspirants applied for the 90 Assembly segments in the state till August 10 along with the fee for the Congress tickets. Later, the party also conducted interviews with these applicants.
