Ambala: The 159th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Madan Mohan Malviya was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Sewa Samiti Girls Senior Secondary School, Ambala Cantt. Pt Malviya was a great freedom fighter, an eminent scholar and visionary. His contribution to India’s education is invaluable. Principal Poonam Anand addressed the students. A procession was organised on issues such as polythene-free and healthy India, girl safety and women empowerment, etc.

Seasonal bonanza organised

Ambala: ‘Kshitij’, a seasonal bonanza, was organised at Cecil Convent School, Ambala Cantt. The event was filled with fun, frolic and excitement. Talented students presented mesmerising cultural events such as Haryanvi dance, bhangra, ballet, Christmas carol (play) and nukkad natak. Science and art exhibitions were crowd pullers. The main objective of the exhibition was to explore students’ imagination and creativity. The students and teachers together put up an array of interesting stalls of food.

Faculty development programme

Karnal: A faculty development programme on stress and classroom management, under the aegis of ‘Hubs of Learning’, was conducted by Pratap Public School, Sector 6. In all, 18 faculty members of Adarsh Public School, Garhi Birbal; The Gurukul, Nilokheri; Universal Academy, Kalheri; and War Heroes Memorial School, Bastara; participated in it. Principal of the host school furnished the teachers with some effective tips and techniques to gain perfection and expertise in coping up with toughened classroom situations.

NSS cadets plant saplings

Kaithal: A seven-day NSS camp began at Indira Gandhi Mahila Mahavidyalaya here. As the theme of this year’s camp is environment conservation, the students planted saplings on the college premises. Principal Arti Garg said the camp would continue till December 29.

Student shines in abacus c’ship

Karnal: A Class III student, Jeeval, of Dyal Singh Public School, Panipat, has brought laurels to the institution by winning the national championship of abacus and vedic mathematics conducted by Abacus and Vedic Arithmetic Study. As many as 12,500 students participated in the competition. Jeeval was awarded with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 5,100 on National Maths Day at the Constitution Club of India.

Badminton, Chess meet

Kurukshetra: In all, 250 players from 18 NITs from across the country took part in the All-India Inter-NIT Staff Tournament of Badminton, Table Tennis and Chess held at MNIT, Jaipur, recently. The team of NIT, Kurukshetra, won 13 medals in various events. Prof PC Tewari won gold medal in men’s singles above 50 years category. He and Shweta Meena won gold in mixed doubles above 50 years open category. Prof Umesh Ghanekarand and Prof Tewari won bronze in men doubles above 50 years category. In men’s doubles of table tennis, Prof Umesh Ghanekar and Prof Jaideep Gupta won silver medal. Apart from this, Dr Shweta Meena and Pallavi Rai won silver medal in the women’s doubles while Prof Ghanekar won bronze in the men’s singles table tennis event.
