The Gohana police claimed to have solved several cases wherein a miscreant used to escape after getting fuel filled in his car without paying money at petrol stations.
The accused has been identified as Praveen of Baroda village in Gohana.
Gohana Assistant Commissioner of Police Devender said the accused had initially admitted his involvement in five such incidents.
During interrogation, Praveen admitted that he had committed such crimes on the petrol stations situated in Rohtak, Gurugram and Gohana area. Praveen revealed that he got petrol worth Rs 25,450 filled in this manner so far. The accused used a fake number plate on his car, the police said.
Amit, manager of a petrol station, complained to the Gohana Sadar police that on September 22 that a car came at 9.02 pm to get the fuel filled. He said the car driver gave him a debit card and as he turned to pick up the payment machine, the accused fled the spot.
The police produced the accused in the court, which sent him to two-day police remand.
Gohana DCP Bharti Dabas said several incidents of running without giving payment at petrol stations were reported in Gohana and adjoining areas. Of 12 such incidents, eight cases had been solved, she added.
“I have taken a meeting with petrol station owners several times to enhance security arrangements at their establishments,” said the DCP.
“Cameras installed at petrol stations were found to be of very low quality. The police have asked owners to install high quality CCTV cameras,” she said.
