Man dies of drug overdose near Bhakra Canal in Sirsa

A man was found dead near the Bhakra Canal in Rori village, Sirsa, on Tuesday evening. The deceased is suspected to have died from a drug overdose. A drug injection was recovered near his body. Area residents informed Dial-112, and the police arrived at the scene, sending the body for a post-mortem examination.According to police reports, the deceased is estimated to be between 25 to 30 years old.

ASI Mahendra Singh of the Rori police station said the identity of the man had not yet been determined, and investigations were under way to establish his identity and the exact time of death.

According to locals, the canal area in Rori has become a hub for drug abuse, with several drug-related deaths reported in the past. Despite special patrolling orders from SP Vikrant Bhushan, addicts continue to secretly visit the area to use narcotics. A resident said the harvest season had seen a rise in drug users, as the dense trees and bushes in the region provided hiding spots for addicts.

Many of them drink water from the canal after consuming drugs. Being close to the Punjab border, the area also attracts drug users from the state. Among the regions of the district, Rori has reported the highest number of drug-related deaths. In the past, young men from Punjab have died here due to drug overdose, and a drug supply network is believed to operate from the area.
