Gurugram, August 2
A criminal case for death due to negligence was registered against the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) with regard to the death of a 44-year old man who drowned in an open stormwater drain on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. It was raining heavily due to which the water was overflowing from the drain, making it invisible. Ajay Raghav, the victim, could not see that the overflowing drain was not covered. He slipped into the drain and drowned.
The incident occured on the Sohna road in Bhondsi area of the Gurugram district. Manoj Kumar, nephew of Raghav, alleged that the drain was supposed to be covered with cement slabs, but it was open near the Ghamroj toll plaza, where the accident occurred. Therefore, it was the fault of the NHAI that claimed Raghav’s life, Kumar said.
Bhondsi police station SHO Naresh Kumar said a case under Section 106 (causing death due to negligence) of the BNS was registered against the NHAI.
