The police have arrested Arif of Cama in Rajasthan on the charge of cheating a village resident of Rs 1.9 lakh after advertising a car on the online portal OLX.
A police spokesperson said a complaint was lodged on February 14 by Rinku of Pengletu village in the district that he was cheated of Rs 1.9 lakh.
According to the complainant, Arif, posing as an Army man, had posted an advertisement on OLX that he wanted to sell a 2015-model Alto car for Rs 90,000.
After Rinku contacted him, Arif asked him to transfer Rs 1.9 lakh as comprehensive cost, including car cost, transport charges and tax, into his e-wallet.
The complainant was shown an identity proof prior to transfer of money, after which the accused switched off his mobile phone and did not hand over the vehicle. Arif was traced and arrested.
Two other persons lodged in jail were named as co-accused. A team was set up to investigate the e-wallet account of the accused as he might have cheated several persons in the past few years, said a police official.
