The fast-track special court (exclusive under POCSO Act) of Additional District and Sessions Judge Narender on Thursday awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a man for raping a 15-year-old girl. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 62,000 upon the convict.
The court has also directed to give Rs 50,000 to the victim from the total fine amount.
Vijender Singh, Special Public Prosecutor, said that the incident was reported to the Kharkhoda police on July 16, 2023.
The victim, in her complaint to the police, said that she was alone at her house on July 5, as her parents had gone outside for some work, when a neighbour, Bhupender, entered her house from the roof and raped her by giving some sedatives in a cold drink. She alleged that the accused also took away Rs 90,000 from their house and threatened her of dire consequences if she spoke to anyone about it.
Following the complaint, the Kharkhoda police had registered a case and arrested the accused Bhupender on July 23. The police produced the accused in the court on Thursday.
