Man gets 20 years in jail for rape of minor
A 20-year prison sentence, coupled with a Rs 1.5 lakh fine, was handed down by Additional Sessions Judge Ashwani Kumar on Wednesday to a man convicted of raping a 15-year-old minor. Convict Chandan had blackmailed and raped the victim after capturing obscene images of her in 2021.
The case was registered on September 24, 2021, when the victim's parent filed a formal complaint with the Manesar Women Police Station, alleging that Chandan had taken illicit photographs of their daughter while she was bathing and subsequently used those images to blackmail and rape her. A FIR was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Following the FIR, the police arrested the accused who was identified as Chandan, a native of Alinagar village in Bihar. After arresting the accused, the police gathered crucial evidence and witness testimonies. This material was then compiled into a detailed charge sheet to present in the court.
“On the basis of evidence and witnesses, the court of Additional Sessions Judge Ashwani Kumar delivered a sentence of 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs1.5 lakh,” stated a spokesperson of the Gurugram Police.
