Yamunanagar: Man gets 20 yrs in jail for raping cousin

Yamunanagar, July 27

A fast-track court on Monday sentenced a man to 20 years of imprisonment for sexually abusing his 13-year old cousin.

The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on the convict, Rajbir, resident of Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh. At the time of the crime, Rajbir was living in Yamunanagar’s Jagadhri.

According to information, family members of the victim had taken her to GMCH, Sector-32, Chandigarh, in March 2019 after they felt that the girl had a bloated stomach. After the check up, she was found pregnant. The victim told the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Chandigarh, that five to six months ago, on her way to a departmental store in Jagadhri, three boys approached her, one of whom took her to an empty plot, where he sexually abused her.

On the basis of the victim’s statement recorded by the CWC, the police registered a case. The victim, on April 11, 2019, changed her statement and told her parents that she was sexually abused by her cousin, Rajbir. The CWC, Yamunanagar, also recorded her statement on April 11, 2019, based on which the police arrested Rajbir that day. — TNS.
