The CIA-1 unit of the Ambala police arrested a man and recovered 1 kg heroin from his possession on Friday.
The accused was identified as Hira Chawla, a resident of Jaggi Colony. A car was also recovered from his possession.
The market value of the seized drug in the international market is about Rs 7 crore.
As per the information, the CIA-1 unit, acting on a tip-off, stopped a vehicle near the Kali Platoon bridge in Ambala Cantonment and recovered 1 kg heroin from the possession of Hira Chawla. A case was registered at Parao police station under the NDPS act. The accused was produced before a court which sent him to a three-day police remand.
Sharing the details, Ambala Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria said “Following a specific input, the CIA-1 unit has recovered 1 kg heroin and the market value of the drug is about Rs 7 crore. During the preliminary investigation, it came to light that the accused used to work as a supplier for a person and in return he got a good amount of money.
Hira was on his way from Delhi when he was arrested with the drug. Following the disclosure made by Hira, a raid was conducted at the residence of the person on whose direction the drug was brought. During the checking, Rs 5.69 lakh drug money was recovered from his house. The main accused will be arrested soon.”
“The criminal record of Hira is being verified, while the person on whose direction the drug was brought has seven cases, including cases of the NDPS Act, and assault. All efforts are being made to break the supply chain and target the main suppliers. During the remand, a detailed investigation will be conducted and the source and end customers will be arrested”, he added.
The SP said since January this year, 33 cases, including nine cases of commercial quantities have been registered and 52 persons have been arrested. Various drugs including heroin, opium, churapost, intoxicating tablets and capsules, ganja, and smack were recovered.
The SP said, “Sincere efforts are being made by the police to make the district drug-free for which action is being taken against the drug peddlers and awareness camps are being held to make people aware of the ill effects. We appeal to the people to share the details of drug peddlers and other people involved in narcotics so that appropriate action will be taken against them.”
