Man held with heroin worth Rs 5 crore in Fatehabad

Under the ongoing anti-drug campaign, a joint team of the CIA staff, Ratia, and the Anti Vehicle Theft staff, Fatehabad, conducted a major operation against drug traffickers. During the action on Monday, the police arrested one accused with approximately 1.6 kilogram of heroin, valued Rs 5 crore in the international market.

The accused has been identified as Gurmeet Singh, alias Guggi, a resident of Pirawali village, Hisar district. During a press conference, SP Sidhant Jain informed mediapersons that the CIA, Ratia, under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Bed Pal, was patrolling near Badopal village when they received a tip off about the accused transporting a large quantity of heroin on a motorcycle from Punjab to Pirawali via Ratia and Badopal.

Based on the tip-off, the police set up a checkpoint at Dhangar bridge. Soon after, Gurmeet was seen approaching on his motorcycle. When he noticed the police, he tried to flee but was quickly intercepted and caught. On searching him as per legal procedure, 1.6 kg of heroin was recovered.

A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at the Sadar police station, Fatehabad.

The police revealed that Gurmeet was a school dropout (Class V pass), married, and worked as a daily wage labourer. He had a history of drug trafficking in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan and worked with an identified associate from Punjab.

Gurmeet has a criminal record of 10 cases, including under the NDPS Act, theft, immoral trafficking and Excise Act. Two NDPS cases and several theft related FIRs have already been registered against him in Hisar district.
