Man held with Rs 5-L worth opium in Sirsa

The CIA Ellenabad unit of Sirsa Police arrested a drug trafficker on Wednesday and seized 1.654 kg of opium worth about Rs 5 lakh from his possession near Mattuwala village.

Sirsa Superintendent of Police Deepak Saharan said the accused, identified as Ardas Singh, alias Bhola, son of Sohan Singh of Mattuwala, was caught during a patrol led by Inspector Dharamveer Singh.

On spotting the police, the suspect tried to flee but was apprehended. The opium was found inside his plastic bag during a search conducted in the presence of a gazetted officer.

During questioning, Ardas admitted to having procured the opium from Chittorgarh in Rajasthan, intending to sell it in Rania and surrounding areas. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Rania Police Station.
