A man was arrested for allegedly impersonating as a constable of the Kurukshetra police and misleading people. The accused was caught wearing a T-shirt with a logo of the Haryana Police. A police uniform, belt, shoes, cap, forged police ID card, laptop, pen drive, mobile phone and other articles were recovered from his car.

Giving details, a spokesperson of the Kaithal police said head constable Mangal Singh and his team from the Mahmudpur police post were patrolling on the Samana–Cheeka road on Wednesday evening when they got information that Vijay Kumar, a resident of Theh Banehra village in the district, had been posing as a member of the Kurukshetra police cyber cell. They got a tip-off that he was heading towards Punjab in his car.

Acting swiftly, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Balraj Singh set up a checkpoint near the Mahmudpur bus stand. Shortly after, when an Alto car approached the checkpoint, the police signalled it to stop. Instead of stopping the car, the driver tried to flee, but the team managed to intercept and apprehend him.

During questioning, the accused claimed to be serving in the Kurukshetra cyber cell. However, verification revealed that no such employee was posted there, the spokesperson said.

A case has been registered against the accused at the Guhla police station. The spokesperson said the man was a habitual offender and used to roam around different areas while impersonating as a policeman and misled people. “The police will seek his remand from the court for further interrogation,” the spokesperson said.
