A 55-year-old resident of Ghaziabad allegedly murdered his wife and lived with her corpse for four days before making a drunken confession in front of neighbours late last night. The police have recovered the body and arrested the accused, Bharat Singh.

Singh reportedly confessed to killing his wife, Sunita, and keeping her body in the house in front of neighbours who complained of a stench from the rented flat in Ambedkar Nagar, Ghaziabad. The neighbours then informed the police.

Singh allegedly killed Sunita on February 27 and stayed in the house for a few days.

ACP Naresh Kumar said they received information about the body around 3 pm on Saturday.

Kumar said the body had started decomposing. The investigation so far revealed that it was the second marriage for both Singh and Sunita. The couple married two-and-a-half years ago.

The constant altercations between the couple were reportedly over Singh financially supporting his first wife despite Sunita’s disapproval. Singh’s first wife had also started visiting their home, leading to aggressive brawls. He has reportedly told the police that on the night of February 27, a heated argument ensued, culminating in Bharat strangling Sunita.

Bharat, employed as a salesman, refrained from leaving until Friday when he locked his main door and left for work.
