Sirsa, July 25
A Fast Track Special Court set up under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act here today sentenced a man to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting his minor daughter. Justice Praveen Kumar while delivering the verdict also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him.
According to advocate Samistha, Special Public Prosecutor, the case unfolded when the victim, a 14-year-old girl residing in the Kalanwali Thana area, informed the police that about six months ago, her father drugged her food, causing her to lose consciousness, after which he sexually assaulted her.
The incident came to light on October 27, 2019, when the girl experienced abdominal pain, prompting her mother to take her to a doctor. During the examination, the doctor informed the mother that her daughter was seven months pregnant. Upon learning this, the mother was shocked and she took her to the police station. The police recorded the minor’s statement and on October 30, 2019, filed a case against her father and arrested him.
It’s worth noting that lawyers in Sirsa have refused to represent perpetrator, who is accused of committing the crime against his daughter. What’s surprising is that his wife herself went to the court premises to find a lawyer to defend him. However, she denied pursuing the case against her husband with any of the lawyers she approached.
