Rs 505 crore on various infrastructure projects in the industrial hub for the 2024-25 fiscal year. This expenditure represents a decrease of 2.6 per cent compared to the previous budget.

The MC has estimated revenue collection of Rs 470 crore, reflecting a 14 per cent decrease from Rs 547 crore in the last fiscal year.

According to officials, a significant portion of the proposed budget will be allocated toward laying new sewer and water lines, constructing community centres and building roads. A substantial Rs 200 crore has been allocated for the construction of roads and bridges, followed by sanitation, with Rs 121 crore set aside for it.

Additionally, the budget provides Rs 40 crore for building projects, Rs 25 crore for new sewage lines and Rs 20 crore towards upgrading water pipelines. As many as Rs 10 crore has been designated for development of parks and Rs 15 crore for the establishment of micro sewage treatment plants, aiming at sustainable urban living.

In the current fiscal year, the Municipal Corporation had initially projected revenue of Rs 547 crore, yet it only managed to generate 35.6 per cent of that amount, totalling Rs 195 crore. Against an estimated expenditure of Rs 519 crore for 2023-24, the civic body only utilised 25.9 per cent of the allocated funds, amounting to Rs 134 crore.

The corporation had aimed to spend Rs 163 crore on sanitation in 2023-24 but only utilised Rs 78 crore of that budget. To augment revenue, the MCM plans to explore new avenues beyond property tax. The planning department activities are expected to contribute Rs 54 crore, sourced from building plan approvals and the sale of government land. Additionally, revenue from user charges and advertisement income is anticipated to strengthen, with expectations set at Rs 11 crore and Rs 6 crore, respectively.

However, the corporation fell short of its revenue target from planning, estimating Rs 193 crore but only generating Rs 93 crore in the 2023-24 fiscal year. Despite generating a surplus revenue of Rs 8.46 crore from user charges last year, the MCM could not lay new water and sewer lines in the current fiscal year, resulting in zero revenue from those sources.
