Manu Bhaker’s maternal grandmother, uncle die in road mishap
Olympic medallist shooter Manu Bhaker’s maternal grandmother and maternal uncle died in a road accident when their scooty collided with a car on the Mahendragarh road in Charkh Dadri town today.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Charkhi Dadri police Suresh Kumar said the victims were identified as 70-year-old Savitri Devi, Manu Bhaker’s grandmother, and her 50-year-old uncle, Yudhvir, who was employed as a driver with the Haryana Roadways. Both died on the spot in the mishap. The car driver fled immediately after the accident and left the vehicle that overturned after the mishap on the spot.
According to information, the victims — both natives of Kalali village in Charkhi Dadri district — were on their way to a relative’s home on a scooty when they were hit by a Brezza car coming from the
wrong direction, about 150 metres away from their destination.
The police took the bodies to the Civil Hospital for postmortem examination and registered a case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving against the car driver who absconded from the spot.
Ananad, a relative of the family informed that Yudhvir was on the way to join duty at the bus stand when his mother asked him to to drop her at a relative’s home located in the same town. We want the police to investigate the matter, he said.
Manu Bhakar was honoured with the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award two days earlier. The family had been celebrating this achievement, but the accident has left them in mourning.
