Marathon in Kurukshetra on Sunday

Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh today informed that to spread the message of drug-free Haryana and benefits of yoga, a state-level yoga marathon would be held in Kurukshetra on June 15.

The marathon is being organised as part of the state-level International Yoga Day celebration to be held on June 21 at Brahma Sarovar.

Interacting with mediapersons, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) said Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini would flag off the 5-km yoga marathon. “So far, 10,000 youths have registered for the yoga marathon, and further registration is on. The objective of the marathon is to motivate the young generation to stay away from drugs. The government has been making continuous efforts to connect the youth through marathon, yoga and sports. Youngsters from across the state can participate in the marathon,” the DC said.

As per the district administration, top-20 winners (10 each in male and female categories) of the yoga marathon will be honoured with cash prizes. In each category, the first prize is Rs 51,000, second Rs 31,000, and the third prize is Rs 21,000. Besides these, seven runners in both the categories will be given Rs 10,000 consolation prizes.

“To select the winners, staff of the Sports Department will be deployed as judges. Apart from this, videography will be done by the district administration to ensure the right selection of winners,” the DC said.

“The marathon will start from Brahma Sarovar’s southern gate and pass through Sabzi Mandi Chowk, Railway Road, Punjabi Dharamshala before ending at Purushottam Pura Bagh of Brahma Sarovar. Arrangements have been made for the people who would participate in the marathon. Traffic will be allowed on the marathon route,” the DC said.
