Kaur said she received information that a minor was about to get married and the groom’s 'baraat' was about to arrive. She, along with her team and police officials, reached the spot.

A team from Mission of Destitute and Desperate of India, an NGO, also arrived at the location.

Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the girl was 15 years old and had not even completed her schooling. A small wedding ceremony had been arranged. Her father was reportedly unwell and wanted to marry off his daughter.

The team explained the illegality and consequences of child marriage to her family, following which they agreed to postpone the wedding.

Kaur appealed to the residents not to marry off their minor children. People should inform the Women’s Police Station or dial 112/181 if they came across any child marriage case, she added.
