Martyr cremated with military honours in Panipat village

The last rites of martyr Subedar Sunil Malik (38) were performed with full military honours at his native village Lakhu Buana in Israna area of Panipat district. Subedar Malik was posted in West Bengal and suffered a stroke during duty hours.

Amid chants of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, ‘Vande Matram’, hundreds of people participated in the funeral procession.

DC Virender Kumar Dahiya consoled the bereaved family members. Rupal Malik, Sunil’s brother, who was also retired from the Indian Army, lit the pyre.

Youths, with the Tricolour in their hands, chanted slogans. According to the information available, Sunil Malik died due to heart stroke during duty on March 3. The family received information about his death the same day and his body reached his native village on Wednesday in an Army vehicle.

Zila Sainik Welfare Officer, SDM Israna Ashish Kumar, Tehsildar Narender Dalal, DSP Rajbeer Singh also reached the funeral ground and paid floral tribute to the martyr.

Soldiers gave him guard of honour. Sunil was posted in the 6 Engineer Regiment and joined the Army in 2010 through sports quota. He was a national-level volleyball player. After joining the Army, he shifted to boxing. He is survived by wife Pinki and two sons -- 10-year-old Nishu and 6-year-old Vansh.
