Sirsa, July 26

Tweny five years after the martyrdom of Manohar Lal from Dhani Dult village of Fatehabad district in the Kargil War, his parents still hold their son’s memory close to their hearts. The family has expressed its agony over the lack of a memorial for the martyr at Fatehabad, though they acknowledge the government’s support and respect.

Manohar Lal made the supreme sacrifice on June 13, 1999, during Operation Vijay, in the Dras sector of Kargil. Just five days after his death, his joining letter as a Lieutenant arrived at his home. His father, Rameshwar Das Mavalia, and mother, Harkori Devi, said that despite the government’s promises, no memorial had been built in his honour at the district headquarters.

The process for building a memorial was started, but remains stuck in bureaucratic files.

A government school and a library in Dhani Dult were named after Manohar Lal. His family members stated that the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government provided substantial support to the families of Kargil martyrs, including a gas agency for Manohar Lal’s family and a government job to his younger brother.
