A panchayat of Dostpur village in Mahendragarh district and several nearby villages on Monday condemned the attack on Prem Devi (67), wife of martyr Khushiram Yadav of the village, and demanded the immediate arrest of attackers and strict action against them.

She was critically injured in an attack allegedly by her neighbour and his accomplices on Saturday.

The panchayat also submitted a representation to the SP, seeking justice for the martyr's wife. Inspector Chhatarpal, SHO of Nangal Chaudhry police station, who also attended the panchayat, assured them of prompt action and sought seven days for the purpose.

"A hunt has been launched to nab the attackers with the help of the CIA wing and cyber cell. Teams have been dispatched and the accused will be behind bars soon," he said.

The victim's son Krishan Kumar, who is also in the Army, said she had sustained multiple fractures and was admitted to a private hospital in Gurugram.

The police have registered an FIR under various Sections of the BNS, 2023, against Prem Devi's neighbour Rohit and his unknown accomplices on the basis of a complaint lodged by Kumar.

As per the complaint, the accused scaled a wall to enter her house and attacked her with sticks. The incident was captured by CCTV cameras installed in the house.

"They wanted to kill my mother, but could not succeed because of a commotion in the village," said Kumar.

Asked about the reason behind the attack, he said a youth named Rahul, alias Romeo, who lived in their neighbourhood, had a criminal background and had attacked his uncle, who had shot him in self-defence.

"Following that, his family used to threaten us with dire consequences. Hence, I apprehended an attack on my mother and lodged a complaint with the police on April 7," he stated.
