Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today expressed concern over the drug menace in the state and called upon religious leaders and social institutions to unite in launching a mass movement against drug addiction.

Addressing a gathering at the state-level Veer Bal Diwas at Kurukshetra University today, Saini called upon people to draw inspiration from the sacrifices made by the Sahibzadas and urged parents to teach their children the values of courage, sacrifice, and dedication.

“The sacrifice of Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh serves as an inspiration for making the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the nation. The martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh’s family is the greatest sacrifice in history. Their sacrifices were made to protect the country, religion, and society, and to safeguard the weak and helpless,” he said.

The CM also paid homage to Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, who avenged the martyrdom of the Sahibzadas, and said he was the first Sikh commander who broke the myth of the Mughals being invincible.

The CM mentioned various sites in Haryana associated with Sikh Gurus and said various public institutions and roads across Haryana were named after the Gurus. He said Lohgarh Bhagwanpur was being developed as a tourism hub. To facilitate this, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Trust had been established at Lohgarh.

Saini said, “Drugs are a major issue. We need to pay special attention to it and protect our younger generation. Along with the government, society and family also need to play a crucial role. If a skilled youngster gets involved in drugs, not only is his future ruined but also it affects the progress of the nation.”

The CM also paid obeisance at Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi on the occasion.

Haryana BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli said the government was taking steps to uphold the values of Veer Bal Diwas by organising events across the state. Such events educated the youth about their unique and inspiring history.

The Kurukshetra University VC, Prof Som Nath Sachdeva, said Veer Bal Diwas recalled the valour and sacrifice of the Sahibzadas and added that there was no age bar in devotion and sacrifice for dharma and the country.

A booklet in Hindi, English and Punjabi, dedicated to the martyrdom and life events of the Sahibzadas, was also released on the occasion.
