Gurugram, June 13
Panic gripped Bajghera village in Gurugram as a massive fire broke at a scrap godown post-midnight on Sunday. About 20 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire is yet to be brought fully under control despite the passage of 12 hours.
No casualties have been reported so far, though over 20 shanties have been gutted in the fire.
It is being said that a plastic godown near the fire site, belonging to an ancillary of Maruti, too was gutted.
According to the fire authorities, it was around 1 am that a call was received at Bhim Nagar fire station about a fire in the scrap godown at Bajhgera village.
Though initially local fire vehicles were sent, more tenders were rushed as the situation worsened. Fire tenders from Faridabad, Rewari, Jhajjar and Bahadurgarh too were called in.
According to Fire Officer Ramesh Saini, witnesses said that the fire started in a jhuggi first and then spread across the godown. “It appears that a cylinder in a jhuggi exploded, leading to the fire. No casualties have been reported yet. We are dousing the flames from each part of the area,” said Saini.
Deputy Director, Haryana Fire and Emergency Services, Gulshan Kalra said the situation was under control and investigations were on to ascertain the cause of fire. A team of local administration is also at spot to review the situation.
It was a month ago that a massive fire at a garbage mound in Gurugram’s Manesar had gutted several adjoining shanties, killing one and injuring two persons.
