Massive fire at G'gram scrap godown, 20 shanties gutted
Gurugram, June 13
Panic gripped Bajghera village here when a massive fire broke out at a scrap godown in the area.
The fire which reportedly started past midnight was doused in 13 hours after 20 fire vehicles were pressed into service. No casualties have been reported so far. Over 20 shanties have been gutted in the fire.
A plastic godown nearby belonging to an ancillary unit of Maruti too was gutted.
According to fire authorities, a call was received at the fire station at Bhim Nagar at around 1 am.
Initially, local fire vehicles were sent to the spot but as the situation went out of hand, fire tenders from Faridabad, Rewari, Jhajjar and Bahadurgarh too were called.
According to Fire Officer Ramesh Saini, eye witnesses said that the fire started in a ‘jhuggi’ and then spread to the godown. “It appears that a cylinder in a ‘jhuggi’ exploded. No casualties have been reported so far. We have managed to douse the fire,” said Saini.
Deputy Director, Haryana Fire and Emergency Services, Gulshan Kalra said that the situation was under control and investigation was on to find the cause of the fire.
A month ago, a massive fire at a garbage mound in Gurugram’s Manesar had gutted several adjoining shanties, killing one and injuring two others.
