Maternal deaths reviewed to improve healthcare for pregnant women in Sirsa

A review meeting was held on Tuesday in Sirsa district to find ways to prevent maternal deaths (deaths of women during pregnancy or childbirth). The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Virendra Sahrawat.

The Health Department shared data from April to August 2025, highlighting the number of maternal deaths during this period. Each case was carefully studied to understand the reasons behind the deaths.

The ADC stressed that all health centres must focus on infection control, early identification of pregnant women, regular monitoring and prevention of anemia. He said these steps were crucial to ensure the health and safety of mothers.

He also stressed that efforts should be made to understand how the deaths could have been avoided. Proper training should be given to health workers and hospital staff to help reduce maternal deaths.

The ADC mentioned that Kerala had the lowest maternal death rate in the country. He suggested learning from Kerala’s practices and methods that had helped in saving lives.

He further instructed that reports of the reviewed cases should be sent to the hospitals where the deaths occurred. Every case must be thoroughly investigated, and timely reports should be prepared to help prevent such incidents in the future.

The ADC urged officials to hold regular reviews at the district level and work with the goal of bringing down the maternal death rate as much as possible.
