Mayor inspects auditorium, open-air theatre in Jagadhri

Projects being constructed at a cost of Rs 52.87 crore in Sector 17

Mayor Suman Bahamani inspected the auditorium and an open-air theatre being constructed at a cost of Rs 52.87 crore at Sector 17 in Jagadhri.

During the inspection, she checked the quality of the material being used in the auditorium and an open air theatre through a compressive strength testing machine. Executive Engineer Vikas Dhiman showed her the design of the auditorium and open-air theatre and gave her information about those projects He informed that about 32 per cent of the construction work had been completed. He said the work of those projects was being done at a fast pace and the construction work was likely to be completed by September 2026.

The Mayor said on August 13, 2024, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini laid the foundation stone for the auditorium and open-air theatre via videoconferencing from Panchkula.

She said on December 2, 2024, Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana laid the foundation stone, marking the beginning of construction work. “The auditorium and the open-air theatre are being built in the Sector 17 area adjacent to Arjun Nagar. Previously, the area was swampy with filth and sewage. Approximately 5.45 acres was unused. The municipal corporation has done commendable work, utilising this space for good use, and today, a magnificent auditorium is being constructed here,” said Suman Bahamani. She said the construction of the auditorium on this land would enhance the beauty of the area.

“The auditorium and the open-air theatre will enable people to host numerous cultural events. The indoor auditorium will accommodate 1,000 people at a time in an air-conditioned environment. At the same time, 500 people will be able to enjoy cultural programmes and street plays simultaneously in the open-air theatre,” said Bahamani.

She said the entrance and back of the open-air theatre would have parking, which would have a capacity for 200 cars. She further said the front of the open-air theatre would have an open-air stage and seating for 500 people.

“Alongside the stage will be a makeup and other rooms for the artists. Behind the open-air theatre will be an auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,000 people. It will also include VIP rooms, conference hall and other rooms. The hall and all rooms for indoor events will be air conditioned,” said Bahamani.
