In a fresh twist to the MBBS exam scam at Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak (UHSR), the names of another university official and an MBBS student have surfaced during police interrogation of one of the accused. Both individuals allegedly acted as “middlemen” for the racketeers running the scam, sources said.

“Despite not being named in the FIR filed on February 15 — which booked 41 people, including 24 students and 17 UHSR staffers — their connection to the case emerged after one of the accused disclosed their involvement during interrogation,” sources said.

Significantly, this is the first time a UHSR student’s name has come up in the scandal, as earlier, only students from a private college were found to be involved, sources added.

According to the disclosure statement, the UHSR official allegedly approached the accused in 2023 to help certain students clear their supplementary exams. The deal was reportedly sealed at a rate of Rs 50,000 per case through the ‘sheet’ system and Rs 2 lakh per subject via the ‘direct’ system.

Under the ‘direct’ system, examination records were manipulated to ensure students passed, while under the ‘sheet’ system, answer sheets were tampered with to secure a pass, sources said.

“As per the disclosure statement, the UHSR student brokered a deal for three private college students to clear their exams directly, charging Rs 2 lakh per student. All three students reportedly passed. Of the Rs 6 lakh paid, the accused kept Rs 1.95 lakh, while the middleman student pocketed ₹4.05 lakh,” sources said, adding that this student continued facilitating such deals even afterward.

Based on the accused’s disclosures, police are now widening their investigation to verify the facts. Notably, three UHSR employees — two regular staffers and one outsourced worker — have been arrested so far in connection with the scam.
