The Sonepat Municipal Corporation has allotted sanitation tenders, after dividing the city into two zones (zones 1 and 2), to the Mahila Adarsh Co-operative Society.
The tenders have been allotted according to the new request for proposals (RFP), for only four months.
MLA Nikhil Madaan and Mayor Rajiv Jain on Monday inaugurated the sanitation work in Zone 1. They also inaugurated development works worth Rs 3.78 crore in Ward 3.
As per available information, sanitation contracts allotted to two companies — Pooja Consulations and IND Solutions — at a cost of Rs 3.36 crore per month (approximately Rs 41 crore per annum) ended on August 31.
MC Commissioner Harshit Kumar Meena said the new tender for Zone 1 had been allotted at a cost of Rs 2.72 crore, while the tender for Zone 2 was allotted at a cost of Rs 3.92 crore for four months.
The remaining area – wards 15-20 — would be cleaned by the MC’s regular sanitation employees, the Commissioner said.
MLA Nikhil Madaan and Mayor Rajiv Jain began the sanitation work of the new agency by sweeping the MC office.
They said the previous tenders had ended some days ago, due to which the sanitation work was badly hit, but, from today, a new agency had begun sanitation work.
The MLA said a stormwater line would be laid near Tikona Park, Huda Park and adjoining areas in Sector 14 at a cost of Rs 1.12 crore.
The Mayor said the monsoon had ended, and now the construction of broken roads and streets would begin soon. Councillors of various wards were present during the programme.
