MC cracks down on tax defaulters, seals 6 properties
The Municipal Corporation of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) has sealed six properties, including a gas agency office, due to non-payment of property tax. According to officials, the defaulters owed the corporation Rs 4,109,556 in unpaid taxes. About a month and a half ago, the MCYJ had sealed 26 properties belonging to tax defaulters.
This time, teams seales six properties- five in Jagadhri zone and one in Yamunanagar zone, as confirmed by Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha. The MCYJ has also pasted warning notices stating that any attempt to break the seal without any official permission would lead to legal action. Sinha urged the property owners to clear their dues by March 31 to avoid penalties. After this deadline, about 18 per cent interest rate would be levied on outstanding amounts.
According to sources, the MCYJ had issues notices to high value defaulters who owed more than Rs 1 lakh under the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act 1994.
Following the issuance of these notices, some property owners cleared their dues, but those who failed to do so faced sealing. Sinha confirmed that enforcement teams led by Zonal Taxation Officer (ZTO) Ajay Walia in Yamunanagar carried and Office Superintendent Pradeep Kumar in Jagadhari carried out the sealing of the properties.
