MC elections: Kurukshetra weapon holders instructed to deposit arms soon
In view of the Thanesar Municipal Council elections, the Kurukshetra police have asked licensed arms holders to deposit their weapons either at the police stations concerned or at any authorised gunhouse.
Weapon holders have to deposit their weapons to ensure law and order during elections. Kurukshetra police spokesman Naresh Sagwal said, “The municipal council elections have been announced, and, to a ensure peaceful and transparent process and create a fearless atmosphere, the district police have requested the general public to deposit their weapons at the earliest. They can deposit their arms at the nearest police station or any authorised gunhouse. In case of depositing arms at the gunhouse, license holders have to show the receipt to the police station concerned.”
Directions have been issued to Station House Officers (SHOs) and police post in-charges to ensure that all the weapons are deposited at the earliest.
In case weapons are not deposited, action as per law would be taken and the process for the cancellation of the license of the weapon holder would be initiated, and the renewal of the license would be stopped, he added.
Superintendent of Police Varun Singla said, “The general public is being urged to contribute and help the Police Department in conducting elections peacefully.”
