Hundreds of vehicle repair shops are located in several areas, including near residential areas in Rampura colony. Besides, such shops are operating on both sides of several roads of the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri. Anil Kumar, a resident, said vehicle repair work was carried out on footpaths and roadsides in front of many shops. “This practice narrows space on roads, leading to traffic jams. Shifting the shops to the auto market will alleviate the problem of encroachment and traffic jams on the highways, city roads and markets within the municipal corporation area,” he added.

Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad said facilities like drinking water, drainage, toilets, sheds in the open area and other facilities will be available in the market.

“Except the successful bidder, the security deposit of the remaining participants will be returned on the spot,” he added.

As per information, under the Auto Market Project, such markets are proposed at three places in Yamunanagar and Jagadhri. A market is to be built in Chandpur at a cost of Rs 3.16 crore, which will have 42 shops.

Besides, auto markets are to be built in Gulab Nagar and Gadhauli villages at a cost of Rs 19.65 crore.

“The process of leasing 21 shops in the Chandpur Auto Market has begun. The monthly rent for each shop will be Rs 21,110,” said Mayor Suman Bahamani.
