The Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ), has started taking action against property holders, who are failing to pay property tax.
A team of the MCYJ has sealed the properties of four property holders of Jagadhri zone, who owe a total property tax of Rs 30,82,537 to the MCYJ.
According to information, on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha, final notices were issued to the defaulters of property tax of more than Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh under Sections 87, 95, 113, 128, 129 and 130 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, a few days ago.
Some of the property-holders in the said categories have deposited the property tax and some of them have started paying tax in instalments.
However, there are still a number of property holders, who are not paying their tax.
As per available information, a team comprising Regional Taxation Officer Ajay Walia, Pradeep Kumar, Jitendra Malhotra, Raghubir Singh, Abhijeet, Vikas, Ankit, Nitin Tyagi and others was formed to seal the properties of the people who were not paying tax.
Ajay Walia, Regional Taxation Officer of the MCYJ, said that the team first reached a dharm kanta (weigh bridge) located in Jagadhri. He said that this property had a tax due of Rs 7,95,271, therefore the MCYJ team sealed it. He said that after this, the team sealed a dhaba located in Jagadhri as this property had a tax due of Rs 9,26,531.
He added thereafter, the property of a person, who owed Rs 5,08,710 tax to the MC, at Chhoti Line in Sawanpuri and that of another person, who owed Rs 8,52,025, in Roop Nagar were sealed.
He added that after sealing the properties, a warning notice was pasted that if the seal was opened without the permission of the MCYJ, legal action would be taken.
“A final notice was issued to these defaulters a few days ago, but they neither deposited their property tax nor responded to the notice. Therefore, action was taken to seal the property on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha,” said Ajay Walia, Regional Taxation Officer of the MCYJ.
